As some of you might know, I am spending 7 weeks in Caracas, Venezuela on this crazy documentary project I have planned. It's about this skyscraper that's been reinhabitated by 2.500 people...

So far, I couldn't get inside, as the people who live there are a little suspicious when it comes to foreign journalists, even if it's an amateur like me.

Instead of pictures of the house I will show you some other nice stuff I've encountered so far, while continuing to make contact with people who know people who know people, because that's just how they roll here in Venezuela.

Such a lovely weather outside, perfect for sitting in a dark room watching movies.
Totally worth it, though, if you ask me.
And appearantly the judges thought so, aswell;
My film received an honorary mention. Yey!
Came with flowers and certificate to show off with.

Rough translation;
"This film plays on time. The annotation on the editing of the material convinces in it's exceptional form. With a self-deprecating view on her own work expended, the filmmaker antedates the ending and leaves the viewer behind with a thorough cleaning crew. Time is relativ."

So from 25th to 27th of August I have been enjoying the company of the most interesting filmmakers, distributors, video artists, architects, journalists, authors, curators, directors, documentarists and more filmmakers at the Arsenal Summer School 2011.
In 3 days packed with workshops, talks and filmwatching I had the chance to broaden my horizon about films in general and documentaries in specific.
Talking about such a variety of topics as content approaches, different styles, funding, tones, audiences, consequences of "action" not to mention watching some very interesting works of directors present for Q&A.
If you can, join them next year, it's well spent time and money.

As you can guess, the miro and me have not been sitting around.
We will be playing this Saturday 11th of June at Brunnenstr. 70.
The whole party is huge, with over 20 performers,bands, singers, 35mm films, DJs and yours truly. Well worth the 10 euros, also get your picture taken for bridges across borders!
They are working with the youth from Bosnia Herzegovina against racism.

2 hours from seoul is a small island, accessable by a very long bridge. there is an artist residence there, and a little village.

Lucky shots from the bus on the way back.

Making gimbap, the korean sushi. Where as in Japan this is a delicatess, the koreans see it as a delicious snack.

Also, in the middle of the city there are some mountains, so my old sneakers took a 836m hike, to enjoy the scenery.

Addendum: I had to by new shoes afterwards.

What a noisy weekend that was,
at NK 52 at a workshop with Derek Holzer,
who showed us how to build the little fragile beauty below.

some details:
well, first of all, I didn't ground it well, so it double purposes as a radio of some rudimentary form.
It has an input Jack for which we built contact-mics.
This you can attach to all kinds of surfaces and get the craziest noises,
even hold it to your throat to modulate your voice.
But you can plug any 3,5 cm Jack in, be it mp3, guitar, keyboard...
It also has an output, if the little speaker doesnt give you enough boost.
There's a power switch with a yellow indicator LED, that starts the 9V battery.
Five pots to turn; Volume, Gate, Compress, Drive and Current.
Oh, and of course the speaker.

First tested on the TCSD in Berlin,
where there are so many beautyful people and the weather was fairytale sunshine, so it was easy to frame subjects.

This is a Miro 4, a 4 channel video mixer, which means you can plug in 4 different sources plus a live cam (through an outdated serial plug)

This is my first try on it, sorry about the whiteout. I am only using 1 channel, for i need to get some old cable connections and adapter (BNC, said serial and 5DIN)
I have to tell you its awesome, but then again I am a sucker for blinking lights and pressing buttons and levers.

The Miro 4 is actually that old, that i wasnt able to find any information about it online. THAT old!

Sprungbrett-workshop

So I am in Hanover right now, working with the great Leandro Goddinho from Sao Paolo on the task of the Sprungbrett-workshop: " Take an ugly place and prettify it in a three minute movie."

We have four-and-a-half days to do this, so time is precious, but we are doing good.
The finals will be shown friday and saturday night at 8, in the cinemaxx, Hannover.
As for the place, we decided for the imfamous Ihme-Zentrum, a former shopping mall, now abandoned, though it is topped by appartments, which are still inhabited.

We even got an article in "Neue Presse", a local Newspaper!

And one in Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung....

Since I kept quiet for a while now, here an update:
I finally found an appartment, which was pretty rundown...

...so we renovated a lot (well mostly André did)...

...till it all looked comfy and cosy.
Then I got my Berlin-Passport,
my own keys,
said goodbye to the past,
and hello to Berlin.

And finally danced till I dropped.

This little bus, our home for a month.

And then, yesterday...
...it broke.
So we are back, bags full of films, pictures and sounds from belgium, england, france and luxembourg. :)
